How to save money on a long distance move

Rent a POD for a long distance move and save money.

When you hire a long distance moving company its super common for them to group your load with others in the same truck, or even unload your stuff into their warehouse and group with other shipments. They might wait for weeks for other loads to come together while you're sitting in an empty apartment across the country.

Sometimes your stuff gets mixed in with someone else's and you could end up missing stuff. Or, things get broken in the chaos and the long distance mover only offer $0.60/lb to cover the damage after you've paid $20,000 for a long distance moves.

A better option is to rent a POD from PODs or ABF-Upack and hire pod movers labor at each end to load and unload. This way your belongings are kept all together in one container that is locked and secured that no one else can enter.

You can hire cheaper loading and unloading labor than a full service interstate movers, or even load the pod yourself. You may still need to wait weeks for your items to arrive, but at least you'll rest safe knowing that no one else will be in the POD, and your items won't be mingled with anyone else's shipment so everything will stay separate. Also the POD are watertight unlike some unscrupulous companies moving trucks.

Most complaints about moving companies are in interstate situations. It's an all too common story to hear about "hostage load" situations, where rogue interstate companies will jack up the rates with extra charges before unloading the truck, leaving the customer powerless. At least with a POD you're the one with the lock, everything is in your name, and you're dealing with a large well known national company. Consider a POD for your interstate moves.
